How to make 2 characters overlap in Android EditText

I am making a music notation app for Android for one of my school projects.

  • In this application, I do not have a mechanism for playing music notation. Instead, I use a font that has different notes at different heights with lines of music sheets in place. Thus, all I need to do is insert characters into the EditText view.
  • Recently, I found out that I did not have two notes playing simultaneously with this method.

I would like to know if there is a way for two characters to overlap each other in the EditText view, so that 2 notes with different heights can be displayed in the same column.

Alternatively, if anyone knows a library for playing music on Android, please share your knowledge with me.

Use SurfaceView with the required PNG music bitmaps. Here you can find many of the necessary bitmaps, assuming your project can handle any open source license used by Wikibooks. If this is not possible, I am sure you can find the musical bitmap images elsewhere.
