Android flashlight

Question

I would like to make a flashlight application similar to that described here for my Nexus S, since all those available on the Android Market require unnecessary permissions. What are the chances that this type of application could damage the hardware (led, v regulator, etc.) if I turned on the flash with 100%? Should I use a 50% duty cycle (or another duty cycle) or trust the HW construct?

For what it's worth, I use the camera LED on my X droid all the time friganga like a flashlight. I have not seen any degradation. Of course, I only had 6 months, but .... it seems safe.

I usually do not use it for more than 15 minutes at a time.
