Should I use Lucene.Net for full-text search with SQL Compact Edition 4, or is there a better option?

I am trying to create a full-text search tool for a small blog that works with a SQL Compact Edition 4 database.

There seems to be almost no information about this (although I would be happy if someone could prove me wrong), but as far as I can tell, SQL CE does not support normal full-text SQL Server indexing.

I briefly reviewed the use of Lucene.Net , but at first glance it seems pretty complicated; would this be my best option here, or is there a simpler solution that I am missing?

Lucene.Net would be a good choice, even if you had full-text search capability.

Lucene.Net extends the past by offering FTS (full sql text). Including promotion conditions, fuzzy queries, a simple aspect search, which can be found in the Contrib project in branch 2.9.4g, etc.

Its openource, so you do not need to wait on anyone else's loop to change it or extend or add functions.

There are a few posts and even FOSS contrib projects that will help get around a higher barrier to entry. I would recommend the content in the list below, starting with Lucene in action.

The book is a great resource, but the latest version is for Lucene 3.0, the java version that includes new APIs that didn't make it into the .NET version.

Lucene.Net will also pay off as a decent library to add skillset skills to your overall repertoire. Search is pretty much different than most apps these days.

The Lucene.Net project has returned to incubation with a newer set of committers and goals. One of these goals is to make it easier and more understandable for .NET. However, he will definitely take time and cycles to achieve this.

At the same time, you can always ask for help on the mailing list or using the irc channel # lucene.net.

Lucene is the way to go - my colleague recommends the free PDF book "Lucene in Action", and after the first three chapters you work.

If this is a small blog, you can use IndexTank because it is free. There's a WordPress plugin that gives you an instant search like this:
