Should I start to study software architecture?

I hope that I will not be too ardent to ask about it

I am studying WCF / Asp.Net, so the type of applications I plan to write are web applications, web services applications, or a combination of the two. To my knowledge, web applications are typically implemented using an n-tier architecture, and WCF usually follows SOA design principles.

So, I am wondering:

a) what benefits will I get from studying various architectural projects if the types of applications that I plan to write mainly use n-level and SOA patterns?

b), and if learning different architectural styles is a must, is this the right time to start learning and implementing them, or should I first focus on becoming more experienced at writing wcf / web applications?

PS - to clarify, I am not asking about this because I am too lazy to study, but since it will take me quite a while to become even a programmer, I would first study material that will directly help me improve my skills programming

thanks

I think you answered your question:

Focus on your immediate needs first, and when you get a chance (or need to) to explore other design patterns. There is no doubt that such knowledge will be useful at some point. However, if your work requires you to work exclusively in one area, this is the area you should focus on until you feel comfortable.

There is no answer to your question "size fits all." But by learning about different architectures, you will increase your overall reach, and this will make it easier for you to develop a new system and understand existing ones.

Now you can start learning (even if you don’t understand something at first), and then come back many times when you become more experienced.

I would start by getting a good book to find out the technologies you mentioned. Most of them will talk about some types of design patterns, as they teach you how to work with the subject. I found that many patterns applied to software architecture naturally arise from work in software development.

You can certainly go and buy a book strictly by templates (GoF design templates, Fowler templates for enterprise applications), but without the necessary background, you probably won’t understand why or when you want to use one template on top of another.
