Hit users from the app

I wrote an application that is used by the company as a whole. Many users tend to leave the application open 24-7. This application is constantly being developed as the marketing department needs to be changed. Most of the changes are minor, but often need to be implemented quickly. Salespeople are often away from their desks or over the phone, so an intercom announcement doesn’t always do the trick. The application is placed in a shared network file and shortened to.

What I present is something like a message popping up something like "The program will go for the update in five minutes, save your changes now." Is there a way to display this message and delete them from exe remotely? I thought it might just matter the database, which it periodically checks to see if the update is awaiting, but it seems like a cheap hack for me.
