Update PHP 5.3.1 to 5.3.6 on Mac XAMPP

I just downloaded Symfony2 and it requires> = PHP 5.3.2, but the latest version of Mac XAMPP has only 5.3.1

Is it possible to exchange / upgrade v5.3.1 with 5.3.6 using XAMPP? If so, how?

I am also running Mac OS X 10.6.8.

I left MAMP for this reason a couple of years ago, switch to MacPorts or Homebrew and you will be happy ...

For differences between the two:

Macports

  • Pro : there is a lot of software, you will find everything you need.
  • Con : it is slower because it downloads and compiles any piece of software. It does not use your system libraries, so you need more disk space. On the other hand, it could be pro, because you will never find a problem with the library (lib x require lib y version z)

Homebrew

  • Pro : simpler and faster, and if you know ruby, you can write your own recipe to add missing software. No access to sudo required.
  • Con : you may run into problems related to library versions and dependencies. MacPorts has more software than homegrown.

Just download the installer and install xampp; I tried this on mac os x, it works 100% without errors and data loss.

Note: - I upgraded my version from xampp 1.7.3 to xampp 1.8.3
