It seems like a common goal on the Internet is required so that the page can copy something to the user clipboard if the request is initiated by the user (and not just some script). A classic example is something like https://bitly.com/ that wants to provide you with a shortcut in your clipboard that you can paste elsewhere.
Now I use Flash-based ZeroClipboard to solve this problem (oddly enough), but I would like to get rid of Flash on my pages for various reasons (mobile, performance, security, standards, viewer hassle). Since ZeroClipboard requires it to be triggered with the actual click of the user, it appears to be relatively safe (in addition to common Flash vulnerabilities).
I have several pages that users come to in order to get the material that they want in their clipboard so that they can paste it in another place (JS or CSS snippets). Itβs obviously easier for the end user if they donβt need to manually select the correct piece of text and then manually copy it to the clipboard.
So ... I wonder if this is being discussed in standards organizations right now? Right now, this is the only reason I have a flash on my pages.
For any discussion of the standards that are being discussed, is there any support available or available in any of the browsers for it?
