Select and delete template-based files in the Eclipse IDE

What I'm trying to tag with a package of files for deletion in Eclipse, before issuing a commit through the Subversive integration to "delete" these files from the repository.

In the trivial case, you can, of course, do this by selecting several files in the explorer, pressing Alt and selecting delete, before committing.

However, I need to do this on ~ 500 files, which are distributed across the directory hierarchy at six levels +.

As such, I am wondering if there is a way to select and perform standard Alt-click operations in a group of files matching this template, or is this really the best approach in the first case.

From the Eclipse main menu bar, select Search> File. Leave the "Contains text" field blank and enter the desired file name template.

This will display the files that interest you in the Search view. To remove them:

  • In the browse menu in the "Search" window (the icon is a triangle with a descending orientation, only to the left of the "Minimize / Enlarge" buttons), select "show as list" instead of "show as tree". This hides directories from the Search window and displays only files that match the template.
  • Select all files in the search box using Ctrl-A
  • Right-click the selected files and select "Show In> Navigator" from the pop-up menu. All mapped files are now selected in the Navigator view.
  • Right-click one of the selected files in the Navigator and select "Delete."
