Disabling AGC on iPad

There is little consensus as to whether the iOS interface that Apple provides to turn off automatic gain control is actually implemented. Does anyone know finally if AGC can be disabled when recording audio on the iPad and, if so, how?

if you use iOS <5 ... the answer is NO.

if you use iOS> = 5 on iPad2 ... the answer is still no. Not

If you use iOS> = 5 on iPhone 3GS, iPod (4th Gene), iPad1 (1st Gene), the answer seems to be YES.

ACG is disabled when AudioSessionMode is changed to kAudioSessionMode_Measurement. Check the audit services help desk.

input gain can be controlled by:

1) Set the audioSession mode to kAudioSessionMode_Measurement.

2) Make sure that the device you are using has an input gain available using the kAudioSessionProperty_InputGainAvailable property.

3) Set the kAudioSessionProperty_InputGainScalar property to the desired gain level (from 0 to 1.0)

* have not yet reached the latest iPad, so I can’t confirm.
