Install Visual Studio 2002 on Windows 7 or Vista

I want to install Visual Studio 2002 on Window 7 (32bit). When I try, this gives me a .NET Framework 1.0 incompatibility error. I can install Framework 1.1. by car, but VS 2002 requires 1.0.

Note:

I know that VS 2002 and Framework 1.0 are not compatible with Windows 7 / Vista, but I installed it on another similar computer and used it for a while. Unfortunately, I don’t remember what I did to make it work.

Any suggestions, workarounds, ideas or solutions are truly appreciated.

  • Please do not tell me that it is incompatible and / or downvote, because I am 100% sure that it works on one machine.

  • Also I have to use VS2002 due to an outdated application.

With a few attempts, I was finally able to install VS2002 on Win7. Removed all other frameworks (2.0+) that were installed as part of the VS2005 / SQL Server 2008 installation. I also found that the Windows installer might be corrupted and did something to fix this and some other registry settings.

The main difference that I can recall is that I had other frameworks, MVC, etc. in this system before installing VS2002, and this may cause some conflict.

But again I can’t say what exactly solved the problem. So maybe I should have started from scratch with just a simple OS.

You can install VS 2002 on Windows 7 x86.

  • Remove all new frameworks.
  • Install VS 2002 without selecting Visual Studio Analyzer and Application Center Test
