The difference between touches and target cars

I am trying to learn mobile web application development and walkthrough; http://www.html5rocks.com/en/mobile/touch.html

I wanted to understand the difference between touches and targetTouches ... Not in the literal sense (for example, I understand that targetTouches is element specific)

I wanted to understand more in terms of syntax ... for example, when we say targetTouches inside any function, what exactly do we mean ... Any example would be really wonderful ..

concerns . A list of information for each finger currently touching the screen.

targetTouches : as regards, but is filtered only for information about finger touches that started within the same node.
