View active channels from a remote machine in Asterisk

Question

We would like to remotely control the Asterisk system for a web-based conferencing system. We can get completed calls from the CDR table, and we know that you can execute some CLI commands to locally monitor active channels, but is it possible to get this information from a remote machine with PHP?
