Can a path in a URI contain unicode?

Is it possible that a valid URL contains unescaped Unicode characters?

Yes, a subset of ASCII (and therefore Unicode), which is allowed in a URI without restrictions, such as letters and numbers. But most Unicode character sets should be percent encoded.

URI and URL do not support immutable Unicode characters other than ASCII, however, many servers allow the use of percent-encoded UTF-8 or localized Ansi octets (but do not indicate what is actually used). For standardized Unicode processing, use IRI , which is a new protocol which replaces the URI / URL . It requires UTF-8 encoding for everything and provides rules for converting between IRI and URI .
