Can I use Flex Builder 3 with Mac OS X 10.7 Lion?

There are rumors on the Internet that Adobe Flex Builder 3 is not compatible with Mac OS X Lion. Is this true or can I upgrade to Lion and continue to use Flex Builder 3?

Flex Builder 3 is not compatible with Lion, not later versions of FlashBuilder. The latest version of Flash Builder (4.5.1) did a lot of work done by the Adobe team to fix these problems, and they recently (July 27) released an updated guide to the remaining problems.

Adobe does not recommend updating Lion for owners of earlier products as indicated in the manual.

I managed to install FB3 on OS X Lion. The problem is not in FB3, but in the InstallAnywhere package. Here's how ...

  • I found another application with JavaApplicationStub that worked on Lion. I used Cinderella (http://cinderella.de/files/release/Cinderella2.zip).

  • Find an application that runs in Finder. Right-click (Control-click) and select Show Package Contents. Go to the Contents / MacOS directory. Copy the "JavaApplicationStub" to your desktop.

  • Copy "FB3_Mac_Installer.app" from dmg to your desktop.

  • Right-click (Control-click) and select "Show Package Contents" in "FB3_Mac_Installer". Go to the Contents / MacOS directory.

  • Copy “JavaApplicationStub” from the desktop to the FB3_Mac_Installer.app/Contents/MacOS/ folder. Delete the executable file named "FB3_Mac_Installer" and rename "JavaApplicationStub" to "FB3_Mac_Installer"

  • Run FB3_Mac_Installer.app on the desktop.
