I recently co-authored and published a simple Android water testing app and got used to developing for Android:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.parp&feature=search_result
Application name: "Parp, but if you are looking for" Parp, it appears only after the fourth page of results (it seems to fluctuate a bit). The above results seem to have nothing to do with the word "parp" and exist only because of the similarity of words with names in their title / description. For instance. There are many apps related to finding where you parked your car. I understand the link here, but I don’t understand why the exact match should be so far in the ranking. We tried to include the words “parp and” park in the description (without making it ridiculous) to move it closer to the top (it used to be on the 10th page of results), but we managed to achieve only that page 4. Although I I do not expect it to return results for any related search, I was hoping to transfer it to the first or second page for my own name.
Does anyone have any guidance on what else we can do, how the market is evaluating the results, or how to choose good app names that should avoid such clashes? Somehow on the first page it would be great, and I do not understand why this should be unattainable, given that this is the only application on the market that has Parp in its name (which I know)!
