Android device not recognized by win7 virtual bot

I am running VirtualBox with Windows 7 on it in Ubuntu 11.04. I want to use this environment for Android development.

I followed the installation instructions and could debug the emulator. I used VirtualBox settings to configure the USB filter for my phone (LG Ally). When I connect the phone, the filter works, since I do not see it in Ubuntu, and Windows recognizes that something is attached.

When I try to update drivers using the ones downloaded using the SDK, Windows says the drivers are updated. Device Manager does not display the device name, referring to the USB Composite Device.

If explorer is open, my phone does not appear. It also does not appear when trying to debug a device (through an eclipse).

Any help or suggestions are welcome, thanks.

You can try to force update the driver using the SDK.

  • Open device manager
  • Find a USB device
  • Right click, update driver software.
  • An overview of my computer for driver software
  • Search for USB SDK drivers

Alternatively, try removing the composite USB device from the device manager, and then restart the Windows computer. Connect your phone, make sure that Windows has exclusive control, and then start Windows again. When the device manager picks up the new hardware, tell him to use the driver from the SDK.

Hope that helps
