Unlock Windows Phone 7 Emulator

Today I wanted to unlock the WP7 emulator to see some more features, such as: task manager, access to isolated storage files and viewing default applications such as Office, Messaging and others, but I could not get it to work ...

I followed the instructions here , but I do not have the file [YourHardDrive]: / Program Files / Microsoft SDK / WindowsPhone / v7. 0 / Emulation / Pictures . In the [YourHardDrive] folder: / Program Files / Microsoft SDK / WindowsPhone / v7.0 / Emulation I have only the following files:

  • WM7_Skin.xml
  • WM7_Skin_Down.png
  • WM7_Skin_Mask.png
  • WM7_Skin_Up.png

I looked at other manuals related to the unlock emulator, and they all point to the Image folder, which in my case does not exist

Has anyone also encountered this problem?

I'm curious: why doesn't Microsoft provide default access to an โ€œunlockedโ€ emulator?

Thanks.

The instructions you're associated with are a very early beta preview of the Windows Phone SDK six months before the phone is released! Therefore, you need not be surprised why they no longer work.

You can search the XDA forums for the unlocked version of the emulator image 7.0, but this version is also not relevant. RTM is currently version 7.1 of the SDK for the so-called "Mango" release of Windows Phone 7.5, but it is currently not possible to "unlock" the Microsoft restrictions placed on this emulator image. There are some options for launching some internal applications / dialogs using the tool from the 7.1 SDK and their corresponding GUIDs. You can take a look at this and this article for some instructions.

Xda developer forums often publish unlocked emulators. The one I recently shot is here . It is in Italian, but just go into the settings and change it to the desired language.
