French Eclipse Support

I need to enter some french characters in the eclipse. How to configure eclipse to enter French? I have all the fonts that come with the default eclipse packaging.

Preference / General / Workspace / Text File Encoding

In my configuration, I see Cp1252 (possibly installed after the current setup of the operating system) and does not have problems with any French character. UTF-8 is a more general setting that will match any OS language setting.

As noted in this entry, this should be UTF-8 by default, for encoding an unlimited number of Unicode code points instead of a specific coding grid such as Cp1252.

OP add:

Also, the default encoding for eclipse is set to UTF-8.

Good!

In wordpad, I can type in French just by using the Left Alt + Shift key to switch the language. How to do it for eclipse?

Typing the same combination: it will change the keyboard locale.
On my Azeri keyboard, when I click on the eclipse editor (like the Java editor), I will see β€œq” when I type β€œa” because the keyboard will be mapped to qwerty.

AFAIK, Eclipse, like most (all?) Java applications, uses UTF8 as its usual character set. Thus, it is not Eclipse that needs to be changed to enter French characters, but your operating system (in particular, the keyboard layout). It will probably be easier for you to figure out which escape sequences your OS uses to enter characters that are not represented on your keyboard. On Windows, you can do this using the Symbol Map utility, available in the Accessories section. I am not sure how to do this on other platforms.
