How to run Windows Phone 7.1 Emulator on Windows8

I am having problems with the WindowsPhone 7.1 emulator on Window 8 CTP; It looks like the emulator has some OS version dependencies.

When I try to deploy it in Visual Studio, I get the following error:

Error 1 Connection failed due to invalid command line arguments. 0 0

I know that the CTP version of Win8 is now not the best for development, but this question is interesting for me and our user group.

Online Help:

The Windows Phone emulator is blocked because it may prevent your computer from starting correctly in the future.

Your version of the Windows Phone emulator is not compatible with this version of Windows.

Information on possible solutions to this problem can be found in the following Knowledge Base (KB) article:

Click to go to the Microsoft website for the KB article Which version of Windows do I use?

You are using Windows 8.

This did not work for me, but some said that they worked for them. Now you can download the WP 7.1.1 SDK, which runs on Windows 8 :) Link here http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx ? id = 29233

As you indicated

Your version of the Windows Phone emulator is not compatible with this version of Windows.

It seems to me that all you can do is wait for the update or (somehow) find the source code of the emulator and try to recompile it.

If you have a 32-bit version of Windows 8, you can safely run the Windows Phone 7.1 emulator in compatibility mode. Right-click on the executable file and click on the compatibility tab. Check the box "Run the program in compatibility mode for" and select "Windows 7" from the list. Click "Apply" and release.

try installing Windows phone sdk 7.1.1 → http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=29233 but in most cases people fixed an error when installing xna, before installing Windows Phone sdk you should install gwlivesetup from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5549 . After that, you should install or reinstall the WP SDK. Maybe this can help you.

The emulator is not yet supported on Win 8.

Whatever you do, DO NOT try to run the emulator with administrative privileges or you will see how incompatible emualtor is, as you will see the new "chic" look of Windows 8 Blue screen of death.

There is a specific problem with the virtual host used to run the emulator, as other virtual solutions can still work like Virtual Box. You can start emualtor in a limited way using Virtualbox on a Win 8 machine, but you will not have access to the toolbar or it will be able to start XNA

Just to let you know. This is really incompatible with Win8 due to the lack of some APIs in the new OS. This will be an update in the future.

You can still develop using a real WP7 device, if you have one, for debugging and testing our applications just fine in Win8.
