IM clients (or plugins) with code formatting / token

Question

Can anyone recommend an IM client (preferred Linux / Mac), which either supports natively, or through the plugin the ability to format and highlight code blocks inserted into chat windows? I constantly insert and receive blocks of code in my client (Adium at the moment), where I copy them to an editor to perform formatting to make it readable.

I know that I cannot be the only one who moves code fragments around others like this, so I believe that someone should have done this already, but my searches did not come up with anything. Please help me before I raise my hands and start another project to reduce time :)
