Why would I create another directory next to the default?

I am new to Sql full-text server search. Why would I create another directory next to the default?

I really don’t understand exactly how the catalog organizes the full text indexes, I got the impression that it looks like a table layout. confirm it to me.

It seems that adding a second Full Text directory to the same table is not possible. In SQL Server 2008R2, as soon as I added the directory, the button to add another is disabled:
