How to set IP address as CNAME record for subdomain

I have Amazon elastic IP. I have a subdomain such as aap.myhosting.com and I want to associate this IP address with the app subdomain. But when I change the CNAME and put the HOST IP address for the 'app' subdomain, I get the following error.

Use only letters, numbers, dashes (-), or periods (.) After using the appropriate web extension, such as .com, .net, .org. Do not enter spaces or other punctuation. (example: abc-company.com)

The error is explanatory, but can I still set this IP as the host for the subdomain?

CNAME is not intended to point a subdomain to an IP address. You must use the A record. If the subdomain is already in the CNAME, you need to delete it and then add it to it as the A record indicating the required IP address.
