What is equivalent for ContentObserver on iOS?

I use ContentObserver in an Android app to get notified when a photo is taken. Obviously, iOS does not use a system of intentions, so is there an equivalent or alternative way to do this? I would prefer not to write a full camera app if possible.

This is not entirely possible. Even the latest Google+ application on iOS with Instant Download is not notified when taking photos, it just checks the asset library while the application is running, and then, as much as possible, while the background is running, before the OS ends up from time to time.

See the Google+ help below:

Note. Photos and videos will be uploaded while the Google+ app is open and for a short period of time.

You cannot start in the background and receive a notification when a picture is taken and saved in Camera Roll by another iOS application.

However, you do not need to write an entire camera application to allow the user to take pictures from your application or access the Camera Roll from your running application.

Take a look at the UIImagePickerController . It is very easy to let the user select or take a picture on iOS.

On iOS, there is no equivalent to ContentObserver.
