How to improve IDEA performance?

I like the JetBrains IDEs of most other IDEs. I often use IDEA and PyCharm. And while I work with them, I spend a lot of time waiting for IDEA to do different tasks. So, are there any tips for improving the performance of IDEA and PyCharm?
