What are the 12 hexadecimal color codes in the xfce terminal configuration mean?

I recently installed an XFCE terminal to use the perfect Solarized palette using this prepared configuration .

Everything works fine (although the colors of the colonel’s midnight make me cry now), but I’m very curious about one thing:

Why do the color codes in the xfce terminal settings contain 12 hexadecimal digits, and not 6? Like these:

ColorPalette8=#d3d3d7d7cfcf

What does it mean? And how does this relate to the color codes indicated on the official page

GTK uses 16 bits per color channel, i.e. 4 hexadecimal digits. The color value for GTK can be encoded as #rgb , #rrggbb or #rrrrggggbbbb .
