Oracle SAS Data Issues

I have a problem with special characters. I use SAS to connect to an Oracle database and then to load tables from Oracle datasets into SAS.

Previously, special characters that loaded correctly, no problem. I recently got a new laptop at work, and there have been some data problems since then.

Basically, what happens is that special characters are deleted or completely replaced. For example, Γ© is replaced by e. replaced by. Other special characters are simply completely removed and replaced with "?"

I read a bunch of articles about coding, transcoding and NLS_LANGUAGE, but I just can’t understand why this is happening and how to fix it. My other colleagues who are still using old laptops don't have the same problem!

Please any help would be GREAT appreciated

Check your Windows registry. On my machine, the setup is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\oracle\KEY_OraClient11g_home1\NLS_LANG . Compare this key with colleagues who use SAS with Oracle and still have older laptops.
