Netbeans: Is it possible to install multiple Netbeans for every different development need?

I use Netbeans for various development needs. But installing a lot of plugins makes Netbeans really slow. Is it possible to install multiple Netbeans installations for each specific development need, such as Eclipse?

There is another way to have multiple Netbeans for various development needs. Using this method, you do not need to have multiple installations or archived versions of Netbeans. The only thing you need to do is provide a different user directory for each development profile. Here follow these steps:

  • Create a new folder for your new development profile. For example, "Netbeans for PHP".
  • Create a new short line for your new profile.
  • Add the following abbreviated parameter: --userdir pat-to-yor-new-folder
  • Open Netbens by creating a new shortened and disabled plugin that you won’t use
