How to move an old VC6 project to VS2010 using Daffodil

Recently, I am interested in this project. I have an old project made in VC6, which I hear is a great development environment, but does not work smoothly on my machine. I also do not know how to work with this. A full flight to the 2010/12 project is a big time, and I wonder:

  • Can someone share some basic information on how to use this tool? I searched a lot and could not find anything more comprehensive than the site.

  • What specific old VC6 tools do I need to work on Daffodil? (compiler, linker, etc.), where are they located on the installed machine?

To create a project in VS 2010:

  • Verify that the VC 6 build tools are installed and working.
  • Make sure that VS 2010 and Daffodil are up and running.
  • Open the VS 6 workspace in VS 2010.
    A. In Explorer, right-click the VS 6 workspace file (* .dsw).
    B. Select "Open With" β†’ Microsoft Visual Studio 2010.
    C. Migrate on request.
  • Change the platform toolkit to v60.
    A. Right-click the project and select Properties.
    B. On the General page, install Platform Toolset on v60.
  • Build.

A quick read tells me that the concept of "Daffodil" is to use the VC6 compiler with ID2 VS2010. Therefore, you will not run VS6 on your computer. You just need a VC6 compiler and linker.

Start by having Vs2012 transfer the project and see if it’s not working properly. Newer compilers are much better - if you have experienced the pain of conversion.
