Is it safe to set the port range from 1024 to 65535 in a prod environment

I knew that on WS2K8R2, the new default start port is 49152, and the default end port is 65535 for TCP and UDP for IPV4 and IPV6. I wonder if I can safely expand the dynamic range to: 1025 - 65535. Is it safe if I do this. If this is unsafe, any problems?

Thanks!

Anything in the range 49152-65535 is an unreliable port number in IANA, so these numbers are generally safe. Thus, using this safe range means that it is unlikely to interfere with any running applications and, thus, will reduce the time it takes to find a good port number.

No. You should take a good look at the RFC 1700 and its current successor to IANA. All ports mentioned in these documents are reserved for these applications and should not normally be used by other applications.
