Gettext clone or alternative with permitting license (non-copyleft)?

I'm currently trying to find an alternative to gettext with comparable tool support. However, the library itself must have a permissive license, so binaries can be linked statically, and I don’t need to allocate object files along with binary as provided by LGPL.

In short: one of the so-called permissions licenses (BSD, MIT, zlib / libpng, X11, etc.) will work fine for me, but I could not find an alternative for a permissive license.

Any pointers?

Yes, I saw and read one answer https://stackoverflow.com/questions/943058 and reduced it. The question was clearly for non-copyleft. And LGPL is a copyleft license , even if it is more permissive than the GPL.

NetBSD supports the gettext compatible library under the BSD license.

see http://wiki.netbsd.org/projects/project/libintl/ it needs to be developed, so everything that is missing, you can develop and contribute to it :)

It should also be mostly compatible with third-party gettext tools and utilities if you can force them to compile from source to libintl.
