It offers you a way to track the progress of mediation: go to the web console, enable tracing in the sequence or proxy service, do this mediation (send a message to the proxy server for an example) and look at the "mediation tracer", or edit wso2-esb- trace.log to get details about this execution (called picks, evaluation of xpath expressions, ...)
