Purple lines in vim

Question

I have never seen this before in vim (although I still haven't used it yet), and cannot find anything in a Google search for the "purple vim lines".

So what do the purple lines shown in this screenshot mean?

I just looked at a few other files in this project that have the same PHP code with them and cannot find the purple lines anywhere ...
