<div> and <select> tags

Can I have a <DIV> in the HTML <SELECT> ?

eg:.

 <select tabindex="2" name="agegrp" id="agegrp" > <div> <option value="-1">No preference</option> </div> </select>

i.e. There is an element called "SELECT", a start tag is required, an end tag is required. These children can be OPTGROUP elements and / or OPTION elements, and there must be at least one of them.

Since the DIV is not OPTGROUP or OPTION, the answer is no .

No, but you may be interested in the optgroup element. Keep in mind that its appearance tends to vary greatly across browsers before you start creating projects around it.

As long as you can generate any crazy HTML you want, it is not recommended to use a DIV. What is the problem you are trying to solve by entering a DIV?

Perhaps you do not know the OPTGROUP tag?

The tag is used to group together the relevant parameters in the selected list.

If you have a long list of options, groups of related options are easier to handle for the user.

I do not see the need for this. Are you trying to change the appearance of one parameter in a list item?

As everyone stated, there is no need to make a div in the select list. if you need to individually move list items in id form, suggesting the use of radio buttons.

As far as I understand, you can only have "option" elements inside the "select" element.
