Android emulator is so slow that I cannot use it

An Android emulator takes 15 to 20 minutes to get started and basically crashes afterwards on my laptop, no matter which Android mobile phone or installation Im using. Im one complete lost on what I can do to make it run at a useful level.

Im running it in windows 8 in my lab with an 8 gigabyte bar and an AMD 1.6 GHz quad core processor.

This also happens to me when I try to start a fully functional device. I am lowering the specifications and resolution a bit, since I don’t even have enough memory to host a 1 GB virtual device.

The first download will take some time. You can configure the emulator to use snapshots, which will significantly speed up the loading time. Look at the launch of an x86 image that will increase the performance of your emulator. Keep in mind that if you have any arkaby binaries, they will not work (this is not a problem for most people).

Make sure you install the “Intel x86” system image for the API level platform you are using, and then make sure your emulator uses this in the CPU / ABI drop-down list in your configuration.

This will greatly accelerate its use using the ARM image.

The only thing you can try is to use snapshots, then you will only need to go into a long start once. Snapshots were always awkward for me, and I stopped trying to use them, which reminds me, if you use snapshots, try disabling them, which can also help.
