Emphasis remains divided in NSTextView while typing

I am using NSTextView in my Cocoa application. I press Option-E, the text view displays a sharp accent in the yellow highlighted box, which indicates that it is text, not final. When I type the next character, the text view should display it as a character with one accent, but that is not the case. for instance enter image description here Why?
