ActionBar and sliding menu in android

Question

I just want to create an action bar as a foursquare app. enter image description here

and I want to show a dropdown menu when the home button is pressed in the same way as the image shown. enter image description here

I can create a custom action bar, but not as the first image. Please provide any tutorial to help you create an action bar.

SlidingMenu is a great and easy to use library for this.

edit: Sorry, I thought that it was only a plug-in menu. For the action bar, your best library would be ActionbarSherlock

You can use the version included in the Google Android SDK (instead of a third-party library).
