LocalStorage reliability and alternatives. (Phonegap for iOS, Android, WP7, WP8 and BlackBerry)

Question

I am working on a PhoneGap mobile application and I am looking for storage options.

My requirements:
1) small data requirements (will never exceed or approach the 5 Mbps limit)
2) the ability to transfer applications to all major platforms with minimal settings (or best of all, no)

It seems to me that localStorage is my only option, as it is supported by all platforms.

Questions:
1) Are there any localStorage alternatives that work on all platforms?
2) How reliable is localStorage or how is persistent local storage maintained?
3) If a user deletes browser cash or similar data on the phone, will my data be saved? Or, what could happen that localStorage data is lost?
