Magento Product Collection Select All Attributes

I am trying to create a model that selects a specific product and all its attributes.

$products = Mage::getModel('catalog/product')->getCollection()->addAttributeToSelect('*');

But unfortunately, although I did this hundreds of times earlier, we have a Magento moment ...

 echo $products->getSelect()->__toString();

shows that → addAttributeToSelect is ignoring me.

 SELECT `e`.* FROM `catalog_product_entity` AS `e`

Of course, in a typical Magento mode there are no exceptions or errors of any kind.

I call these methods in my Adminhtml Grid block, caching is disabled (although I know that Magento still caches some model data when caching is disabled (I removed var / cache).

I can’t even:

 ->addAttributeToSelect('name');

I am really losing patience on this platform, I have been using it for 4 months and it seems to spend more time than it saves. Any help will be a life saver!

You need to dig more into Magento to understand how Magento ORM works (what the EAV structure and how collections actually work).

To get all product attributes, this is true:

 $collection = Mage::getModel('catalog/product')->getCollection()->addAttributeToSelect('*');

What you are missing is the fact that Magento will not give you all the related queries for the collection when you do:

 echo $collection->getSelect()//note: you don't need __toString(), read about OOP in PHP5

When you run the code only to retrieve the collection, Magento will only run the following query:

 SELECT `e`.* FROM `catalog_product_entity` AS `e`

When you start a loop through a collection:

 $collection = Mage::getModel('catalog/product')->getCollection()->addAttributeToSelect('*'); foreach($collection as $p) { echo $p->getName()."\n";//you can use in here any getCustomAttribute method }

Magento will run additional queries to get all attributes and values:

To learn more about what queries are running in different contexts, create an empty script, load only the Mage::app() and play with the collections and install $ _logAllQueries to true in Varien_Db_Adapter_Pdo_Mysql . Additional information: here .
