What happens when I “uninstall” paid apps from the Apple and Android App Store?

Suppose I have two sets of applications approved and currently for sale in the iTunes Store and the Google Play Store: on called Foo Free and another Foo Paid.

Foo Free is a free app for iOS and Android. Foo Paid is the same application, only it has a few more functions than the free version, and costs, for example, $ 5.

In terms of generosity, I decided to abandon Foo Paid from both stores and offer the same Foo Paid features in Foo Free, which from now on becomes the only Foo application available.

So the questions are:

  • How can I remove Foo from each store? I know that I have to deselect all available countries in iTunes Connect, and the apps go out of sale. What is the equivalent action to take on the Google Play store?

  • As soon as I remove paid apps from each store, what happens to paid app users? Will the application (s) change from my device (s)? Or do they just save the application and no longer receive updates? Is there a difference between the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store in this regard?

  • Is there any way to make this transition “elegant” for each store? ie: Can I make users who automatically bought Foo Paid switch to Foo Free without having to manually download Foo Free?

On Android, you just need to unpublish the application from the console. The application will disappear from the Playstore

As soon as I remove paid apps from each store, what will happen to paid apps users? Will the device (s) open (s)? Or do they just save the application and no longer receive updates? Is there a difference between the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store in this regard?

No, the application will not be removed from their devices, but will no longer be updated. No difference from AppStore to Playstore

No, another package / package means 2 different applications. You can make an update on the paid version (before deleting it) to redirect the user to the free version (save the link)

Why don't you do it the other way around? Get rid of Free, give it the final update, which simply extends the application to just a message explaining your situation, and buttons with a link to the paid version so that they can install it.

And just upgrade Paid to be free.

Thus, your payment customers have the advantage, at least, not to do anything for this, while your free users probably will not want to do the download in order to get more features for which they usually have to would pay.
