If you know that class A has some way of referring to B, for example, using some reference to a function or attribute, you make an arrow from A to B. Instance B is NAVIGABLE from A, but probably not attribute A .
If you know that attribute A is one or more references to instance B, you can draw not only an arrow, but also a βdotβ at the end.
Very often people just use the arrow in both cases. But strict use of the point may provide additional information.
