Open Source Geoparsing Tool for Java?

I need to implement GeoParsing as part of my project. I am currently doing this with code, looking at input for possible locations. I read about some geoarmanization tools available, such as Yahoo Placemaker, but the ones I came across are only available on corporate versions. Does anyone know what open source geostarter is? Or maybe another faster alternative to finding locations in the text?

I think I'm a little late. But I think that CLAVIN ( https://github.com/Berico-Technologies/CLAVIN ) will be what you are looking for (you can use the Java API) and it is open source.

Yahoo placemaker is no longer free ...

The problem is whether you will do geosamination (find out which word is a location word) or geopark and geocode (what location it is on the map) all together.

If only for geoparking, CLAVIN is a descent software. However, geocoding is not very good compared to Yahoo! Placemaker

I think the best solution to your problem is to fork this project https://github.com/weizh/geolocator-3.0

The rationale for the software is explained in this article http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~gelern/pdfs/geocoding.pdf

Performance comparable to Yahoo! placemaker and better than CLAVIN when geocoding.
