Using maven outside of Eclipse

I already use maven outside of eclipse, but would like to use Eclipse as the main editor. I do not want to use maven already built into M2E. I want to use mine located in / usr / bin / mvn.

In the Window> Preferences window, I try to add the maven installation to / usr / bin / mvn (clicking Ok does nothing, remains in the same window) and to / usr / bin (gives an error: The selected directory is not a valid Maven directory. .

Ask your maven where Maven Home is

 $ mvn -V Apache Maven 3.0.5 (r01de14724cdef164cd33c7c8c2fe155faf9602da; 2013-02-19 14:51:28+0100) Maven home: /home/myuser/maven

and in Eclipse add the Maven Home to Maven settings.

But the best solution is to use the Maven distribution from http://maven.apache.org/ . Just unzip this and configure in Eclipse. Maven from the system distribution works fine with the application installed from the system and is not suitable for development.

/usr/bin/mvn is where the binary is located, the actual maven installation directory may be in /usr/share/maven
