Can I check iPhone battery status in background?

I need to check the battery status in my application when it is in the background. I can check the status of the test in working condition. Can NSNotificationCenter be used to check battery status in the background? If so, how?

This is possible in two modes that support your application. The first is background sound, while you are playing music, your application will receive these notifications. The second is background GPS tracking through Core Location.
