How can I get Mylyn for Eclipse to filter the Bookmarks view based on the current task?

The question pretty much says it all. I just updated Mylyn, so I am using the latest version.

If I placed bookmarks B1 and B2 in A.java and B.java files for task T1, switch to task T2, which includes B.java and C.java files, I see bookmark B2 in my bookmarks view - although it refers to a completely different part of the file than what I work in task T2.

Bookmarks seem to only have filters based on which files are included in the task context, and not which bookmarks are included in the task.

Is there a way to filter bookmarks in more detail, based on tasks, NOT files in tasks?

Short answer: impossible, and here's why:

The Mylyn help page has a clear distinction between:

  • Mylyn Challenge
  • Eclipse Resources:

A task-oriented interface considers tasks orthogonal to resources (for example, files and web pages) .

  • Resources make sense for an asterisk / bookmark , because their main place of residence is in some structural hierarchy (for example, folders or type hierarchies).
  • Tasks are fundamentally different from resources because their main place of residence is on time (for example, deadlines, milestones, things done in the past).
