Sharing AMI Amazon AWS in another account through the console

I am trying to view an AMI shared with one of my amazon accounts with another amazon account, and this is not visible. I followed all the instructions here:

I was able to successfully use the EBS file, but not the AMI. Are there any undocumented problems or steps that anyone has encountered that could prevent me from viewing the general AMI?

Alternatively - is there a way to create AMI from a snapshot?
