Android: Advertising ID vs. Android Unique ID

Google is replacing a unique Android identifier (similar to the old UDID of apples) with a new advertising identifier . Users will be able to reset the advertising identifier.

β€œStarting August 1, 2014, all updates and new applications downloaded to the Play Store should use the advertising identifier (if available on the device) instead of any other device identifiers for any advertising purposes.

Is the Android ID no longer available since August 2014? Can we use the Android id for non-ads. Can we use IMEI or MAC address after August 1, 2014?

As it is written β€œfor advertising purposes”, it seems that you can continue to use the Android ID, IMEI or MAC address if it is not intended for advertising.
