Do different iphones have the same accelerometer axes?

I was wondering if two different iPhones will have the same accelerometer axis. I know that the Z axes will point in the same direction because the accelerometer uses gravity acceleration, but will the X and Y axes point the same way, respectively? For example, if the iPhone 1 accelerates east and the corresponding accelerator readings were in the X direction, will the iPhone 2 accelerate in the Y direction? Or would it be in any direction when the iPhone is calibrated for reading?
