In an EC2 instance, you can retrieve metadata from the local web server by doing the following:
GET http://169.254.169.254/latest/meta-data/
EC2 also employs a circular API key and other magic. Has anyone created a web server to duplicate / make fun of it on development virtual machines? My google keywords don't let me here.
