External files are good programming practice

I'm just curious to learn about some good practices when it comes to external files, in particular with javascript and CSS.
For javascript, you have to make an external file for each module / function added so that it is easy to find and find the code in one place for the module?

Is it also bad to have too many external files connected to the same page, to the point where it affects load time and overall bad practice?

Same questions for css ..

thanks

JavaScript CSS, , , OCD . - , .

I organize a lot with external files, helps me keep track of things. Therefore, I would say that this is a good practice, just trying not to go too far with it, save it as 2-3 CSS, JavaScript, or jQuery each.

Edit * I think this is primarily for the organization, so yes, it is good practice to use external files.
