Is django ORM thread safe?

I have a python program that uses django ORM to access db. The program has various streams, each of which can potentially gain access to db with reading or writing. Please note that this program is not a web server.

Is django ORM thread safe?
Can it be used in parallel from different threads in the same interpreter?
The answer depends on the transaction management mode? django version? anything else?
